A 34-unit apartment complex has been approved at 245 Sumner St. in East Boston.
The Boston Redevelopment Authority approved plans by Velkor Realty Trust to replace the existing warehouse on the site with a four-story, 42,435-square-foot residential building including 2,257 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. Designed by Holliston-based Clinton Design Architects, the $8 million project will include 34 below-grade parking spaces. Five of the units were designated as affordable.
The developer agreed to widen sidewalks and install new landscaping and trees along Sumner and Orleans streets as community benefits. Construction is expected to begin next winter.
