The former Verizon building at 185 Franklin Street is set for $39 million worth of renovations, including an indoor and outdoor restoration and the addition of some retail space.

The Boston-based landlord, Commonwealth Ventures, has filed plans with the Boston Redevelopment Authority to begin construction on the 18-story building.

Plans include converting up to 15,500 square feet into retail space and adding a new lobby and entrance on High Street to connect to the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, according to the documents filed with the BRA.

The project will is expected to create about 300 construction jobs, the filing said.
