The Abbey Group plans to start a $5 million renovation of the lobby of its at 2 Avenue de Lafayette in Boston’s Downtown Crossing district.
Construction on the six-story, 615,000-square-foot office and retail building near Washington Streets rehabilitated historic theaters will start in June with a fall completion date. Suffolk Construction will manage the project.
The new lobby will include a glass façade and staircase that will increase the natural light in the renovated space, as well as what the company describes as "a monolithic, white chiseled marble wall that runs throughout the entire length of the lobby." ADD Inc architects are behind the design.
"Our vision is for this building to be a true city center in every sense of the word," David Epstein, Abbey Group president, said in a statement. "Through the Lafayette City Center’s lobby renovation, we want to appeal to the exciting and diverse businesses in Boston that are now considering the Financial District as a location for their workspace."
