West Tisbury LibraryNeedham-based Nauset Construction will begin a $6 million renovation and expansion of the West Tisbury Free Public Library.

The project is anticipated to be completed by January 2014 and will more than double the library’s current size, to approximately 13,000 square feet from 5,640 square feet.

The original library, built in 1993, was completely gutted in early February to upgrade electrical and mechanical systems to increase energy efficiency.

The new building addition will be constructed behind the existing library. It will include a new study room for young adults, a new director’s office, staff work space, meeting space and restrooms. The design will also leave unfinished space to accommodate future expansion.
