A topping-off ceremony marked a milestone Tuesday for another major commercial development in Boston’s Seaport District.
The future Boston offices of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) are expected to open in October 2015 after an accelerated 26-month construction timetable, said Shawn Hurley, executive vice president for Skanska USA Commercial Development.
"It’s a very aggressive schedule as construction goes," Hurley said. "We actually started without completed designs, so it’s a version of a design-build process, but it’s really Skanska’s construction teams coming together and collaborating along the engineering and architectural teams to expedite this process."
Stockholm, Sweden-based Skanska AB funds its own projects without debt, minimizing potential delays related to financing, Hurley said.
PwC is moving to the 17-story, 440,000-square-foot tower from 125 High St. in the Financial District after signing a lease for 340,000 square feet as anchor tenant. The building at 101 Seaport also will include 20,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.
Construction crews from Skanska and its subcontractors attended a ceremony Tuesday as the final steel beam was placed atop the structure to complete the framing phase of the project.
The parcel is part of the 23-acre Seaport Square development that is permitted for 6.35 million square feet of residential and commercial development. Skanska acquired the one-acre 101 Seaport parcel for $33 million from Morgan Stanley and Boston Global Investors in 2012.
