Life science developer Alexandria Real Estate Equities is on the verge of acquiring a prime site near Amazon’s Seattle headquarters for a tech campus.

Alexandria submitted the high bid of $143.5 million for the 2.7-acre owned by the city of Seattle near Amazon’s headquarters, Mayor Jenny Durkan said Wednesday.

Alexandria, which owns more than 6 million square feet of life science and tech space in Greater Boston, is in advanced negotiations with the city of Seattle, which owns the three lots.

Alexandria has an existing portfolio of approximately 1.5 million square feet of commercial space in Seattle. The new development will include approximately 175 affordable housing units and Alexandria will contribute $5 million of the sale proceeds to homelessness programs, Durkan said.
