Natick suspectA man who robbed a Citizens Bank branch in Natick last weekend threatened branch employees, saying he would release a canister of gas if they called the police, before making off with more than thousands of dollars worth of foreign currency and travelers’ checks, authorities said.

The suspect, who targeted the 34 Main St. branch, identified himself to branch employees as Anthony Digioermo working under Mark Johnson for corporate security and said that he was there for an audit, authorities said. He also told branch employees he was wearing a wig because he had cancer.

According to information posted on MassMostWanted.org, he brandished a gun, claiming it was a 9-mm., and took $4,300 worth of euros, pounds and Canadian currency, as well as $150 worth of American Express Travelers’ Checks.

Authorities said he then warned branch employees not to call the police within five minutes of his leaving or he would release a CO2 canister containing what he only described as "gas." The suspect took off on foot toward the railroad tracks.

No bank employees were injured in the robbery. Anybody who may have information about the suspect is asked to call the Bank Robbery Task Force at (617) 223-6166.
