Cambridge robery suspect 1A task force made up of federal and Massachusetts law enforcement is asking the public’s help in identifying a bank robber who they say robbed a Cambridge bank branch at gunpoint on Tuesday. 

According to a statement, the robber entered the East Boston Savings Bank branch at 2172 Massachusetts Ave. around 9 a.m. yesterday. He brandished a black pistol at the tellers as he approached and threatened them if they did not comply with his demands, police said.

Authorities said that after taking the money, he fled in an unknown direction.

Cambridge robery suspect 2Police describe their suspect as a thin, white man around 50 years of age, 5’7" to 5’10" in height, with gray hair. According to authorities, he wore a green military-style hat, dark-colored jacket, dark green cargo-style pants and white shoes during the robbery, and carried a black bag or backpack. He placed the stolen money in a white bag that he removed from the black one.

The FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force is investigating the robbery. That task force is comprised of Somerville Police, Malden Police, Saugus Police, Massachusetts State Police, Boston Police and FBI along with the Cambridge Police Department. They consider their suspect to be armed and dangerous and are asking anyone with helpful information concerning the case to call the FBI at 617-742-5533 or the Cambridge Police Department at 617-349-3300.
