MetLife Foundation and Enterprise Community Partners has awarded B’nai B’rith Housing New England (BBH NE) a 2011 MetLife Foundation Award for excellence in affordable housing for its work with Covenant House, a green affordable housing property in Brighton that’s home to 300 low-income seniors.
Covenant House and BBH NE will be lauded for a strong commitment to helping ensure seniors are able to age-in-place in a green, healthy environment.
Financed by a grant from HUD’s Green Retrofit Program, Covenant House on Washington Street underwent a $2.7 million green retrofit in 2010 which helped the property dramatically cut its energy usage through the installation of a ‘white roof,’ energy-efficient boilers and motion-sensor lighting.
Covenant House’s partnerships with dozens of local institutions and service providers have also resulted in the collaborative effort and dynamic community that promotes healthy aging for seniors.
