Boston will be the first market to see a new generation of Bank of America automatic teller machines, offering video chats with tellers and other new services, the bank announced.

The new machines will appear later this month at Bank of America’s Back Bay branch at 133 Massachusetts Ave., a Bank of America spokeswoman said. The bank will roll out the new machines to other parts of Boston and the country throughout 2013.

Bank of America said in a statement that the video service, called Teller Assist, would give customers the same quality of assistance received from an actual person at a bank branch. Customers will have access to tellers via video from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the week, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

In addition to video tellers, the new ATMs will cash checks for the exact amount, including the change, and allow users to receive cash in different denominations, including $1, $5, $20 and $100. Eventually, the ATMs will allow customer to deposit checks and receive cash back; split a deposit into two or more accounts; and make loan or credit card payments.
