Fall River-based BayCoast Bank has pledged $250,000 to the Southcoast YMCA.

The donation will be distributed over a five-year period and will be used to rebuild SouthCoast YMCA’s Fall River building at 199 North Main St. Improvements, including wheelchair ramps and elevators, will make the building handicapped accessible.

Earlier this year, Southcoast YMCA announced that it planned to raise $10 million to rebuild the Fall River headquarters, a building which dates back to 1898.

YMCA officials said that tax credits and grants will provide $5 million of the money needed. The pledge by BayCoast Bank brings the community share to $2.5 million.
