A resort in the Berkshires that closed last year after 62 years in business has been sold for about $5 million to a group that plans to reopen it.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that the 450-acre Eastover Resort and Conference Center in Lenox was sold this month to HG October Mountain LLC.

The resort, which had been owned and operated by the same family since 1947, closed in November because of the economy. A lawyer for the new owners says they plan on applying for an innkeeper’s license and maintain some form of resort on the property, although perhaps on a smaller scale. He says there are no plans to develop the property.

Eastover has hosted hundreds of proms, weddings and family reunions over the years.
