Boston Community Capital’s foreclosure relief work – the Stabilizing Urban Neighborhoods (SUN) Initiative – was recently recognized by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke during a national speech.
Bernanke said the program is a model for how "local communities are meeting the challenges of tough times in troubled communities," according to a statement. "Boston Community Capital is pursuing an innovative strategy to prevent occupied homes from becoming vacant and creating a strain on the community … [SUN] provides families with a sustainable and affordable housing situation."
"We’re delighted that Chairman Bernanke sees SUN as an effective community-based response to the foreclosure crisis," said Boston Community Capital CEO Elyse Cherry. "We created SUN to stabilize families and our communities, and the program is working."
