Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is set to meet with community leaders in Brockton next week.
On Tuesday, Bernanke will meet with Katie Sandford, a leader in the community improvement organization Brockton Interfaith Community (BIC). BIC is made up of 12 religious congregations from Brockton and also affiliated with Massachusetts Communities Action Network and the PICO National Network.
On Nov. 1, the committee met with Congressman Barney Frank, bank officials and local Federal Reserve officials about the city’s housing crisis. A total of 950 foreclosures were started in Brockton last year, one of the highest rates in the state, according to data from The Warren Group, publisher of Banker & Tradesman.
The group was promised a meeting with Bernanke to discuss how federal regulators could strengthen the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) to cover the lending activities of national banks outside of their coverage areas. Sanford will also ask Bernanke how to improve the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA).
