bitcoinATMPhiladelphia-based Liberty Teller launched one of the nation’s first bitcoin ATMs at South Station in Boston on Wednesday.

The ATM comes courtesy of a company owned by two friends, Wharton MBA candidates Kyle Powers and Kris Yim, who describe themselves on the Liberty Teller website this way: "We are close friends and bitcoin enthusiasts that are having fun helping to build out the bitcoin infrastructure. We want to tell people that they are now free to use bitcoin as an alternative to slow and expensive megabanks and credit cards, so we named this small business Liberty Teller. Our kiosks help us tell that message by making bitcoin simple and safe enough for anyone to use."

Bitcoin, the most well-known virtual currency, has been getting a lot of attention lately, especially for its volatility. One bitcoin was worth over $1,000 a couple months ago; it’s currently trading at a little above $600.
