Bank of America will eliminate almost 200 positions next year when it closes operations at two facilities in the state.

The bank will close a call center in Dorchester and a check-processing operation in Malden, though bank spokesman T.J. Crawford said that other administrative functions at both facilities will remain open.

Bank of America will cut 86 positions in Malden, about three-quarters of which are part-time, in waves from the first to the third quarter of 2013. The bank will eliminate 107 positions, mostly full-time, in Dorchester in January.

"Both decisions support our strategy to simplify and streamline the company," Crawford said, adding that check-imaging technology means fewer people are needed to process checks.

Crawford said that the bank’s human resources department would be working with employees interested in pursuing other positions within the company and that eligible employees will receive severance packages based on their time with the company.
