A Bolton selectman has agreed to pay a $10,000 fine for having an indirect interest in a contract the town issued for a new public safety center.
The State Ethics Commission announced Thursday Selectman Curtis Plante admitted violating the Massachusetts conflict of interest law.
The commission says the board of selectmen voted in December 2008 to issue the contract to Groom Construction. Plante recused himself from the vote and preceding discussion.
But in February 2009, Plante signed a $700,000 subcontract with Groom on behalf of his employer, Bradford Site Development, to perform the site preparation work.
The commission says Plante violated state law by being paid by Bradford for working on the subcontract, and for representing Bradford in meetings with the board of selectmen in connection with the subcontract.
