Boston ranks among the top 10 best cities for college graduates to settle down and find a job.
Apartments.com and CareerRookie.com – CareerBuilder’s college job search site – have issued their third annual "Top 10 Best Cities for Recent College Graduates" list. Atlanta is the No. 1 city for graduates to relocate, with a one-bedroom apartments averaging $723 per month.
Boston ranked fifth, with a one-bedroom apartment costing around $1,275. Phoenix, Denver, Dallas, Philadelphia, New York, Cincinnati, Baltimore and Los Angeles rounded out the rest of the list.
Rent in New York and Los Angeles were the highest, averaging $1,366 and $1,319, respectively. Cincinnati’s rent was the lowest, averaging $613 for a one-bedroom apartment.
"Many new grads are feeling the pressure of deciding where to live after college," said Tammy Kotula, public relations and promotions manager for Apartments.com. "Finding an affordable apartment and a good job may determine where to live, but it’s also important to look at cities offering the culture and lifestyle these young adults enjoy."
The "Top 10 Best Cities for Recent College Graduates" list was based on the ranking of top cities with the highest concentration of young adults (age 20 to 24) from the U.S. Census Bureau (2006), inventory of jobs requiring less than one year of experience from CareerRookie.com (March 2010) and the average cost of rent for a one-bedroom apartment from Apartments.com (2010).
