Mayor Thomas M. Menino will join the Boston Harbor Island Alliance for a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Boston Harbor Islands Pavilion on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway.
Several local and state officials will join Menino today at noon for an opening celebrating.
Congressman Michael E. Capuano; Bruce Jacobson, superintendent of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area; Jeffrey Mullan, secretary and CEO of the state Department of Transportation; Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Ian Bowles; Thomas B. Powers, president of Boston Harbor Island Alliance; Joel M. Reck, chairman of the Boston Harbor Island Alliance board of directors; and Nancy Brennan, executive director of the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy, are expected to be on hand.
Slated to open in spring 2011, the pavilion will serve as a gateway to the Boston Harbor Islands national park, offering visitors park information and ferry tickets.
