Boston will have its hands full of real estate projects this year, including a new affordable housing in Charlestown, thanks to approval from the Boston Redevelopment Board (BRA).

The BRA board approved an $18 million, mixed-use housing and community center in Charlestown, according to a statement. Bridgeview Apartment Development will consist of affordable housing units and commercial space that will contain 60 units of rental housing.

A tentative designation was given to Elma Lewis Partners LLC and development partner FeldCo Development Co. to build Ruggles Place in Roxbury, according to a statement. The project team has been given 18 months to move forward on the $308 million mixed-use project to transform lower Roxbury into a vital retail center and cultural destination.

The Ruggles place project includes 591,398 square feet of vertical retail space, 43,020 square feet of small ground floor retail space, a 58,474 square feet art and educational space , 315,122 square feet of office space and an above-ground parking structure containing 616,440 square feet.

Finally, the Christian Science Master plan presented to the BRA included three main objectives: to enhance the Plaza for the community; to improve the environmental sustainability of the Plaza; and to explore opportunities for underutilized real estate, according to a statement. However, development is limited for the Christian Science Church on its 950,000 square feet of vacant land due to density concerns for the surrounding area.
