Greater Boston office occupancy experienced a gain during the second quarter, according to a recent report from Jones Lang LaSalle.

Massachusetts office occupancy grew 5.2 percent during the second quarter, compared to just 1.6 percent for the nation, according to the report.

Greater Boston’s dependence on business investment and the lower relative exposure to consumer spending have led to the strong gains, according to the report. Employment growth in Greater Boston also contributed to the gains with 46,000 new jobs added from February through August, including 12,344 office-using jobs.

Even though activity has increased this year, the report did find that a majority of tenants are seeking equal or smaller amounts of space with their new lease.
