Accounting and finance-oriented jobseekers in the Boston area should not expect much improvement in the region’s job market in the third quarter, according to a new survey by national staffing firm Robert Half International Financial Hiring Index.

The majority of corporate CFOs in the area, 89 percent, anticipate no change in hiring in the third quarter. Only 3 percent said they would add accounting and finance staff in the third quarter, while 6 percent said they would cut staff.

The local results reflect a two-quarter rolling average based on interviews with 200 CFOs from a stratified random sample of companies in the Boston area with 20 or more employees, according to Half.

"Many companies remain hesitant to commit to adding staff until they are certain of an economic recovery," said Max Messmer, chairman and CEO of Robert Half International. "In the meantime, most firms are working with their current teams to manage key initiatives, with some employers also bringing in project professionals to assist with rising workloads and support full-time personnel."
