A state senator says he’s upset with the "stealth-like" manner in which the University of Massachusetts-Boston moved to buy the nearby Bayside Exposition Center property, and has called for a meeting with university administrators to discuss it.

Sen. Jack Hart, D-Boston, told The Boston Globe he received a courtesy call from UMass-Boston Chancellor Keith Motley last week just hours before the deal was publicly disclosed.

He said public officials should have been kept informed. He said he’s concerned the purchase would deal a setback to plans for the area which he and residents have drawn up. (AP)
