ConstructionLast night, six projects were given the go-ahead by the Boston Redevelopment Authority’s (BRA) board of directors.

The approved projects span the city and will use more than $297 million in public and private funds, according to a statement. The projects are said to create more than 1,000 new construction jobs.

One of the approved projects is located at 461 Walnut Ave. in Jamaica Plain and is estimated to cost $10.1 million. It will redevelop an existing three-story building to provide and operate a 20-bed respite care facility for homeless individuals on the first floor (to be owned and operated by Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program), approximately 30 studio rental units intended for medically vulnerable and disabled formerly homeless individuals and a one-bedroom manager’s unit on the second and third floors (to be owned and managed by the Pine Street Inn).

Also approved was the second phase of plans for the Old Colony renovation project in South Boston, according to a statement. The $84 million phase two includes the construction of up to 170 housing units including a mix of three four-story elevator buildings and up to seven clusters of three-story townhomes.

The Eleven West project located at 11 West Broadway in South Boston is estimated to cost $23 million and includes the construction of a new 94,644-square-foot, six-story building with 50 residential rental units and 8,230 square feet of street-level retail space. Six of the 50 units will be affordable housing.

The $45 million 368 Congress Street project will transform an existing underutilized building in South Boston’s Fort Point Channel neighborhood into a 120-room extended stay hotel with two ground floor retail and restaurant spaces, according to a statement. The project was previously approved in 2007 as an office and ground-floor retail project.

An affordable senior housing development was approved for the Roxbury/Mission Hill neighborhoods. It will consist of 40 new units is estimated to cost $10.5 million.

The 800 Huntington Ave. project will renovate and expand the existing building to accommodate a new medical office building with an outpatient medical clinic to be operated by the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, according to a statement. The estimated cost is $60 million.

Finally, the BRA board approved the $65 million 100 Arlington St. project, which will turn an existing building into a 128-unit residential building in Bay Village. There won’t be any significant changes to the exterior of the existing building, according to a statement. The project will also includes 10,250 square feet of retail space along Arlington and Stuart Street.
