Six projects including a $160 million new dormitory complex at Northeastern University were approved by the Boston Redevelopment Authority at its July board of directors meeting.

Northeastern will develop an 812-bed apartment building for students containing 221 units from two to four bedrooms on Columbus Avenue in a partnership with American Campus Communities. The 320,000-square-foot building ranging from 8 to 21 stories was designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects.

Boston-based developer Drew Co. received approval for a 23-story apartment tower in the second phase of its Waterside Place complex on Congress Street in the Seaport District. Replacing a surface parking lot, the $157 million project will contain 307 apartments, including 62 smaller “innovation units” and 15 deed-restricted affordable units renting for $1,065 to $1,600 per month. Drew Co. paid $5.7 million to the city’s inclusionary development fund to satisfy the remainder of its affordable housing obligations and support construction of affordable units in the surrounding neighborhood.

Boston College received approval to demolish its 790-bed Edmonds Hall dormitory and build a 215,000-square-foot recreation center. The $95 million project will include six multipurpose courts, indoor pools, three tennis courts, squash and racquetball courts, weights and general fitness space and offices. The loss of dorm beds is offset by two new dormitories opening this fall on Commonwealth Avenue, resulting in a net increase of 240 student beds.

In Beacon Hill, Suffolk University’s Archer and Donahue buildings will be converted into 71 condominiums at 33-61 Temple St. The $162 million project is led by Center Court Partners of New York, which acquired the property last year for $43.5 million.

In Dorchester, the former Odwin Learning Center will be redeveloped into 64 apartments at 1943 Dorchester Ave. Developer Peregrine Urban Initiative LLC plans to begin construction in 2017. And in East Boston, developer Matthew Newman obtained approval for a 20-unit condo building at 202 Maverick St.
