The Westfield Historical Commission recently awarded Easthampton Savings Bank the 2009 Westfield Historical Commission’s Historical Preservation Award for adaptive reuse.

The award recognized the bank’s initiative to preserve the historic location of its branch on 85 Broad St. in Westfield, the former Elizabeth Avery Talmadge House.

Built in the early 1900s, the bank has operated the 85 Broad St. branch for more than a year.

"When we began the process of expanding into Westfield we were very careful to listen to the public and the historic preservationists as we developed the Broad Street site," said William S. Hogan Jr., president and chief executive officer of Easthampton Savings Bank. "We are very gratified that we were able to maintain the historic charm of the home and incorporate it into the branch office footprint."
