Restorations and the addition of a new ATM have been completed at Brookline Bank.
Boston-area design firm RF Schmidt Architects was contracted to help Brookline Bank improve its image by restoring the historic structure that houses the bank’s main location at 160 Washington St.
Restorations to the building, which originally opened in 1921, included repairing extensive weather and water damage, waterproofing to prevent future leaks, refinishing the building’s granite base, and repainting the exterior, according to the architect.
RF Schmidt Architects led the public approvals process which required interfacing with and obtaining approvals from the Brookline planning board, planning department and building department.
"The Brookline Bank building stands at the gateway to Brookline Village and contributes directly to the visual character of the neighborhood," said Polly Selkoe, assistant director of regulatory planning for the town of Brookline. "Brookline Bank worked diligently to restore the building to its original beauty, and RF Schmidt Architects collaborated closely with the town of Brookline to make the project a success."
The general contractor for the project was Building Restoration Services, Boston; and the client representative was Sireen Property Management of Westford. The building was originally designed by F. Joseph Untersee, architect of Boston.
