A business group says confidence among employers in Massachusetts has returned to its highest level since September 2008.
The monthly Business Confidence Index released on Tuesday by Associated Industries of Massachusetts gained 1.6 points in November to stand at 44.9. The index has risen in eight of nine months since hitting an all-time low of 33.3 in February.
The index operates on a 100-point scale, with 50 being "neutral." A rating below 50 means employers are still more negative than positive about the economy, but AIM vice president Andre Mayer said employers are finding "real and fairly steady improvement in the business climate.
Northeastern University professor Alan-Clayton-Matthews says the state could approach normal business conditions by the middle of next year. (AP)
