Middleton-based BWK Construction recently broke ground on a new 37,000-square-foot educational facility in Haverhill for Opportunity Works. 

The new facility will be built on land next to Northern Essex Community College and is slated to open in the fall of 2014. It will include twelve specialized classrooms to offer a variety of integrated, multi-disciplinary supports and services. The $6.4 million building was designed by New Hampshire-based TMS Architects.

"Our [current] Haverhill site is at capacity, serving many people with more involved needs, which requires more space," Jane Harris-Fale, executive director of Opportunity works, said in a statement. "In 2004, our Haverhill site served 19 individuals with 5 staff.  The site now serves 42 people with 15 staff.  The expansion is projected to allow us to serve nearly 100 people with some 35 staff by 2017."

Opportunity Works Inc. is a private nonprofit that supports adults with disabilities and their families.
