The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank Charitable Foundation Trust granted $575,775 to a diverse group of 106 local nonprofits last year.
A total of $26,000 was awarded to 82 teachers in 42 Cape schools and 13 laptop computers were awarded to college-bound seniors from 13 high schools, the foundation announced at the bank’s annual meeting on Tuesday.
Dorothy A. Savarese, chairman of the foundation, commended the organizations represented at the meeting and the Cape and Islands network of nonprofit organizations for the fine work they have done in another challenging year.
"Looking back on 2009, we see it as a year when community service in general was severely tested, yet performed admirably," she said.
