Seamen’s Bank, Cape Cod’s oldest bank, will build a new branch in Wellfleet to replace the current one dating to the early 1950s.

The existing Wellfleet office was built by the First National Bank of Provincetown, is no longer fully functional and presents several mechanical challenges, the bank said. The new building will be constructed behind the existing office to better conform to legal setback requirements from Route 6, according to a statement.

"We are committed to creating a building that is representative of the historical architecture of the community as well incorporating the latest banking conveniences and technologies," said John Roderick, president of Seamen’s Bank.

Seamen’s Bank built a new Eastham branch in 2005 on the site of the former Brackett Farm. The building incorporates artifacts from the old farmhouse and includes a wildflower field.

Brown Lindquist Fenuccio & Raber Architects Inc. are the architects for the project and Cape Assoc. Inc. will be the builders.

Seamen’s Bank has five offices from Provincetown through Eastham and serves residents and business owners from Orleans to Provincetown.
