Saying the spring season has been lost and warning the summer season is at risk, the head of a realty company in Dennis is calling on the state to suspend the meals and lodging taxes as they apply to hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and short-term rentals until at least Oct. 1.

“With the suspension of these taxes it will help spur economic activity, allowing people to return to something close normal lives and help business owners recover and ideally grow their businesses,” Patrick Foran, wrote in a letter to executive branch leaders and lawmakers.

Foran is the president of Foran Realty.

“The loss of the summer season for the Cape and Islands will be devastating and likely to take years to recover,” he added. “While everyone appreciates the various loans and proposals that are being offered, this proposed solution combined with those loans will hopefully turn things around much more quickly.”

Foran said his company managed nearly 100 mid-Cape and Lower Cape vacation rentals.
