An attorney with Boston-based Rubin & Rudman has been nominated for a seat on the new board taking control of the SouthField redevelopment.
Ralph Rivkind of Norwell will be recommended by the Quincy-based South Shore Chamber of Commerce as its representative on the new nine-member Southfield Redevelopment Authority, The Patriot Ledger reported. The board will be responsible for overseeing the 1,400-acre redevelopment of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station property in Abington, Rockland and Weymouth.
Rivkind is a member of the Norwell zoning board of appeals and former chamber president.
Gov. Deval Patrick last week signed legislation creating the new authority and reducing the role of the South Shore Tri-Town Development Corp., which had been in charge of the property since 1998. The current plan calls for up to 2,855 residential units and 2 million square feet of commercial space.
The board will also include two residents of SouthField, two members appointed by both the Rockland selectmen and Weymouth Mayor Susan Kay, one member appointed by Abington selectmen and one appointed by the Norfolk County Labor Council.
