Officials plan to announce today a grant in support of the creation of a new commercial development in Chicopee that will create hundreds of jobs.

The project is one of more than 50 housing and economic development projects, both renovation and new construction, expected to break ground this year, totaling more than $1 billion dollars in development costs in the Commonwealth.

Each of these projects was jump started by an investment from the Gov. Deval Patrick’s administration which will create thousands of jobs throughout the Commonwealth, according to a statement.

Today at 3 p.m., Gregory Bialecki, secretary of housing and economic development, Chicopee Mayor Michael Bissonnette and representatives of the Colvest Group will be on hand to discuss the plans.
