Citizens Bank recently donated $357,500 to nonprofit organizations throughout Massachusetts as part of its participation in the second annual #GivingTuesday initiative.
Giving Tuesday, which falls on the Tuesday after Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, are part of a national effort that encourages people to volunteer at or donate goods or funds to local nonprofits.
"#GivingTuesday is a reminder that the holiday season is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to reach out and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors in need," Jerry Sargent, president of Citizens Bank and RBS Citizens, Massachusetts, said in a statement. "Investing in nonprofit organizations on #GivingTuesday and throughout the year is an expression of our ongoing commitment to strengthening communities across the Commonwealth."
Grant awards ranged in amount from $2,500 to $50,000 and benefitted organizations like the United Way, the Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance and the Children’s Investment Fund.
