Attorney General Martha Coakley announced today that $5 million in grants will be awarded to housing organizations throughout the Commonwealth.

The Abandoned Housing Initiative Receivership Fund (AHI Fund) will use funds recovered through the nationwide state-federal settlement over unlawful foreclosures to assist local communities in mitigating the impacts of the foreclosure crisis. 

Chelsea Restoration Corp., Massachusetts Housing Investment Corp., the city of Fall River and Worcester Community Housing Resources Inc. will receive an initial $2 million – $500,000 each – to administer throughout their corresponding region.

An additional $3 million will be made available at a later date as the progress of these organizations is monitored.

"Communities across the Commonwealth are still struggling with the impacts of the foreclosure crisis, as many distressed neighborhoods are in dire need of revitalization," Coakley said in a statement. "These grants will provide funding to organizations that will continue to help promote rehabilitation efforts statewide."
