Gate Residential has submitted plans to the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) to build up to 40 condominiums in Boston’s Fort Point district.
Gate, a branch of Redgate Real Estate Advisors, has filed a letter of intent with the BRA to erect an approximately 55,000-square-foot property that would rise about 118 feet. The building would include ground floor retail and possibly restaurant space.
The project crosses the 50,000-square-foot mark, requiring large project review by the BRA. Zoning relief would also be required for the building that, if approved, would replace a 4,940-square-foot surface parking lot directly across from the new Tavern Road restaurant on Congress Street.
Damian Szary, a principal with Redgate, said it is too early to know what the condos might cost to purchase. He declined to comment on a construction timeline.
"The city supports all types of new housing on the South Boston Waterfront," said Melina Schuler, a BRA spokesperson, when asked to comment on potential new homeownership opportunities in the neighborhood. "It’s a positive that it is additional housing."
Gate Residential has been busy lately. The firm recently welcomed the first tenants into its $52.5 million Maxwell’s Green residential project off Lowell Street in Somerville, a 184-unit development outside Davis Square. The company is also working on a 230-unit apartment complex in Chelsea called One North of Boston.
