Consigli Construction Co. Inc. has broken ground on the $130 million reconstruction of Winchester High School.

The 280,000-square-foot rebuild of the school will address three critical needs: an increasing enrollment of 200 students within the next five years; an obsolete building infrastructure; and an educational program whose needs are no longer supported by the current physical environment.  The groundbreaking follows an almost two-year feasibility study led by the Winchester Education Facilities Planning and Building Committee.

"We are proud to build this transformational project that will result in a new expanded, modern and efficient high school serving Winchester students for many years to come," Jeffrey Navin, Consigli project executive, said in a statement.

The project architect is Symmes, Maini & McKee Assoc. and the project manager is Skanska USA Building Inc.

Construction will take place in three 14-month phases with an overlap of activities during the summer when students and staff are not in the building.  The completed Winchester High is expected to be ready for students by the start of the school year in 2017.
