The Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA) has partnered with Data Breach Working Group to assess the effects of recent data breaches on its member credit unions.
The CCUA and Data Breach Working have created a survey, which asks participants questions regarding the number of outstanding debit and credit cards the credit union has currently issued, how many of those cards were affected by data breaches at Target and Home Depot last year and whether mobile payment system ApplePay will reduce credit and debit card fraud, among other topics.
The association plans to use survey results to form a detailed set of recommendations for action for congressional delegations. Those will to provide input can fill out the survey here until Feb. 27.
During the State of the Union address last week, President Barack Obama called on Congress to pass a national law on data breach notification. Both Rhode Island and New Hampshire are introducing data security legislation. Target, Home Depot, PF Chang’s Chinese Bistro, UPS, Staples and JP Morgan Chase were among those companies hit by major data breaches in 2014.
