Brockton-based Crescent Credit Union has placed first in the asset category of $200 million to $500 million in the state level competition of the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award.
Crescent’s entry will be forwarded on to the national competition by the Massachusetts Credit Union League, according to a statement.
"Crescent Credit Union is an asset to the city of Brockton," said Mayor Linda Balzotti. "The services and programs it provides to the community exemplifies a strong commitment to producing change in the city, and a willingness to help residents in ways that go beyond the traditional role of financial institutions."
Crescent Credit Union was given the award for its efforts in helping to solve core community problems, primarily through the opening of its Community Learning Center and the Round the Bases summer program for at-risk youth, in partnership with the Brockton Rox, according to a statement.
"We’re proud of the effort and commitment Crescent Credit Union has made to the communities we serve," said Crescent President Robert Gustafson. "These efforts truly demonstrate the credit union philosophy of "people-helping-people."
