The Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts (AGC) recently presented Danvers-based William A. Berry & Sons the top innovative use of technology award.

The award was given to Berry for the development of Mobile Access Technology System (MATS) for safety. MATS enables the on-site project team members to use tablet-sized PCs to record, transmit, track and analyze safety data, the company said.

"With MATS, safety effectively becomes everyone’s job," said Peter Campot, Berry CEO. "It reduces injuries and risk by providing consistent, accurate and auditable data and lowers risk exposure by verifying compliance with regulations and bonding/insurance requirements. Instead of making MATS a proprietary program, Berry decided to share the technology with all construction companies to help make job sites safe places to work."
