The Danversbank Charitable Foundation Inc. has donated $10,000 to the Greater Lynn YMCA’s Saugus Family YMCA, and $2,500 to Beverly Bootstraps Community Services, respectively.

The funding will help pay for a new, open-sided pavilion to allow for rainy day, outdoor activities at the YMCA on Main Street in Saugus. The pavilion will be constructed on an unused portion of the YMCA’s 13-acre woodland property.

"The Saugus YMCA outdoor center will have served over 2,400 youth, families and community groups by the end of this summer through its summer camps, childcare, community programs and learn-to-swim programs," said Bruce Macdonald, CEO of the Greater Lynn YMCA. "Danversbank is an organization that invests in the youth and families living in the communities it serves, and we are truly grateful for their tremendous support in funding the renovation project."

The money donated to the Bootstraps will support the annual summer park lunch program, which provides daily, nutritious brown bag lunches to children throughout the Beverly Recreation Department park program.

The seven Beverly parks receiving lunches four days a week, over an eight-week period, are chosen each year due to their close proximity to low-income neighborhoods. Bootstraps relies on adopt-a-park sponsors and volunteers to purchase pre-packaged items and to make and deliver the lunches.

"Our summer park lunch program is vital to the children who receive the lunches. Most of the recipients qualify for free or reduced school breakfast and lunch from September through June. The income of their families does not change in the summer, so it is a great stress on the family to provide these ‘extra’ meals during the summer," said Sue Gabriel, executive director of Beverly Bootstraps Community Services. "If it were not for the generous donors and volunteers, like Danversbank, who help us provide this program, there would be many hungry children during the summer months. For many of the children, the bagged lunch is the first food of the day."
