Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar & Grill is slated to open in space owned by the Boston Red Sox at 1265 Boylston St. in Boston.

Boston Red Sox fans could have another place to eat around the park.

As first reported last week on Banker & Tradesman’s Web site, Jerry Remy, the colorful analyst for New England Sports Network and president of Red Sox Nation, plans to open a steakhouse in the shadow of Fenway Park.

Remy, the former Sox second baseman also known as “Rem Dawg,” is seeking investors for Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar & Grill at 1265 Boylston St. in Boston. The Sox own the 8,000-square-foot space and have been searching for a tenant since last summer.

“Jerry and I are very excited about opening the steakhouse on a stretch of Boylston Street that is up and coming and we’re catching it at the bottom,” said John O’Rourke, president of LTS Sports and Remy’s business partner. “Across the street, a million square feet of office and condominiums are opening soon. We want to be part of the revitalization.”

On Wednesday, attorneys for the pair will appear before the Boston Licensing Board (BLB) seeking a license to sell alcohol in the 280-seat restaurant, which also will have outdoor seating for another 50 patrons.

Jean M. Lorizio, the board’s executive secretary, said the city does not have any all-alcohol licenses to issue. But she said one could become available within the 30 days the board takes to consider the application. If not, Remy could buy one from another establishment in the city, she added.

“We are optimistic that a license will become available by the city,” O’Rourke said. “If not, we are looking to buy one elsewhere. My understanding is a lease can’t be signed until we get a liquor license.”

O’Rourke declined to say how much rent they will pay the Red Sox for the space.

In the application to the Licensing Board, Remy’s Fenway Park LLC said it plans to spend $3.7 million to renovate the interior into a full-service restaurant and bar with a kitchen and restrooms. The historic brick exterior will be retained with glass windows and doors that look out onto outdoor seating.

Remy already has lent his nickname to a hot dog stand located on Yawkey Way. And in July, Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar will open at Boston’s Logan International Airport.

“If the steakhouse is a success, we’ll look at other New England hot spots to open more,” O’Rourke said.

Sam Hawkey, a Dartmouth Co. broker handling the leasing deal for the ball club, and Janet Marie Smith, the Red Sox architect, declined to comment.
