Digital Federal Credit Union is the first credit union to reach to record over $1 billion in remote electronic check deposits for individual consumer deposits, the credit union claims.
The milestone was reached on March 23, about four years after the bank adopted the technology. More than 1 million checks have been deposited by customers through the credit union’s PC Deposit and Mobile PC Deposit services.
"Providing our members with state of the art banking options including the ability to deposit checks from the comfort of their home, while at the office, or by simply taking a picture of them has and will continue to be our focus," Julie A. Moran, DCU’s vice president of support services, said in a statement.
The bank has partnered with Vertifi Software LLC (Vertifi) a wholly-owned subsidiary of EasCorp., to provide the service. PC Deposit allows eligible members the capability of depositing a check using a computer and scanner. Checks are processed electronically end-to-end through Vertifi, and deposits are posted to members’ accounts in real time with immediate access to check images. Checks submitted and approved for deposit prior to the end of DCU’s business day are deposited to a member’s account on the same day.
DCU’s Mobile PC Deposit, introduced in April 2010, accomplished the same tasks through an app on the user’s smartphone and the phone’s camera. The credit union introduced a similar app for iPads in July 2011.
"Our long-standing relationship with DCU enables Vertifi to innovate and execute at the leading-edge of payment systems technology," said Alan Bernstein, president of Vertifi. "Their members set the bar very high, and this inspires the DCU/Vertifi collaboration."
