Peter G. BrownGerard R. Lavoie Peter G. Brown was elected president and chief executive officer at a recent meeting of the board of trustees of the Dedham Institution for Savings

William G. Gothorpe, who served in the role since 1992, was elected chairman of the board and said he anticipates retiring from the bank as a full-time employee in the fall.  He said he plans to remain on the board of trustees through 2011. 

At the same meeting, Gerard R. Lavoie was elected chief operating officer and will be working closely with Brown. Lavoie, an executive vice president, has been with the bank since 1987.

Brown was president and CEO of Walpole Cooperative Bank prior to his arrival at Dedham. He served as executive vice president and senior loan officer at Everett-based Eagle Bank for eight years. 

Lavoie has been with Dedham Savings for 22 years. Prior to Dedham, he was with Citizens Bank in Providence, R.I. for nine years.
