Massachusetts Congressman William Delahunt and six others have been given the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys’ (NACBA) "Champion of Consumer Rights" award.

The award was established in 1993 and is given annually to recognize and honor those individuals who have distinguished themselves through leadership, scholarship, or legal advocacy by giving voice to American families facing financial crisis.

The 2010 recipients of the Champion of Consumer Rights award are:

  • Professor Ingrid Michelsen Hillinger, Boston College Law School;
  • Professor Kenneth N. Klee, UCLA School of Law;
  • Assistant Professor Alan White, Valparaiso University School of Law;
  • U.S. Representative Steve Cohen (TN-9);
  • U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18); and
  • U.S. Representative Brad Miller, North Carolina (NC-13).

"In an atmosphere of unprecedented home foreclosures, unemployment and soaring medical costs, American families desperately needed someone to champion their concerns. This year’s recipients have answered the call and stepped up to help struggling Americans in economic crisis. These recipients have shown American families the dignity and respect they deserve in times of trouble," said NACBA President Carey Ebert.
