Cambridge Savings Bank has begun offering remote deposit services to its mobile banking customers, the bank said.

The service is available to personal banking customers using smart phones or tablet computers. It allows customers to make deposits to checking or savings accounts electronically using the bank’s remote deposit application, which can be downloaded from iTunes or the Android Market.

"We strive to make banking as convenient as possible for our customers by giving them the ability to actively manage their finances and perform transactions when and where they want. Mobile devices are an important delivery channel for our services and the addition of Mobile Deposit is a really exciting advancement in this area," said Paul Germano, Vice President of eCommerce at Cambridge Savings Bank.

The $2.3 billion bank said remote deposit transactions are protected by "multiple layers of security."

Transactions are completed by taking pictures of both sides of a check to be deposited.
