Samuels & Assoc. has officially filed plans to build 325 apartments, 45,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space and more than 220 parking spaces at Barry’s Corner in Boston’s Allston neighborhood.
The developer is in league with Harvard University for the project, which owns the 2.67-acre parcel at the intersection of North Harvard Street and Western Avenue.
The Barry’s Corner Residential and Retail Commons, if approved by the Boston Redevelopment Authority, will include two buildings. The north building ranges from seven to nine stories tall and will be located on a newly created road. The south building will be six stories tall and fronts on Western Avenue, North Harvard Street and a second new road to be built.
The new proposal is shorter than a previous plan presented to community members in August, when Banker & Tradesman first broke the news of the developer’s plans. That presentation showed one portion of the property would be 11 stories, making it the tallest building in the area at 115 feet.
Residents at the meeting said building more than 10 stories were "unacceptable."
"The Barry’s Corner project represents an important first step in the redevelopment of North Allston," Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said in a statement about the most recent proposal.
