Brigham and Women’s Hospital plans to build a 360,000-square-foot research laboratory and a parking facility on Emmanuel College’s campus in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood.
The hospital filed a letter of intent with the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) today to enter a long-term ground lease with the school to allow development on the 45 Avenue Louis Pasteur site that now contains Alumnae Hall – one of the first buildings constructed when the college opened in 1919 – and a parking garage, both of which would be demolished.
The new research facility would generate funds needed to finance the school’s other construction projects, plans that include a new dormitory and library expansion. Then, the school could finance construction of a new 425-475-bed dorm and a 65,000-square-foot expansion of the Cardinal Cushing Library.
Colliers International also filed a letter of intent on behalf of the New England Conservatory to build a 10-story, 135,000-square-foot residence hall and student center. The property to be built on what is now a surface parking lot on the corner of Saint Botolph and Gainsborough streets across from Northeastern University’s Matthews Arena would house about 250 new beds, a music library and dining hall.
Accompanying the dorm would be a 65,000-square-foot administrative and academic property to be constructed on an existing dorm across from the new residence hall at the corner of Gainsborough and Saint Botolph streets.
