More than 100,000 of Marlborough-based Digital Federal Credit Union’s members have signed up for remote deposit capture services, online deposit, the $5 billion credit union announced.

The credit union introduced online deposit in March 2008. Members enrolled in the service can remotely deposit checks via an Internet-connected PC, iPhones, Android phones and corresponding tablets.

“Because we were one of the first financial institutions in the country that enabled members to deposit a check from their homes or business, we had to provide a lot of education on how to use the service. But because the service was so easy to use, members quickly grasped and embraced using it. In addition, early on, we offered financial incentives to members just to get them to try it,” Vice President of Support Services Julie Moran said in a statement.

Digital Federal Credit Union has more than 390,000 members across all 50 states, though the bulk of its membership base is in New England. The self-service channels, which are provided by Vertifi Software, have increased member convenience and reduced attrition, officials said. Since their inception, DCU officials say the credit union has handled more than $1 billion through those channels.
